Clothing Bank
The clothing bank was added to the Martin Resource Center in September of 1999. The intended mission for the clothing bank is to provide clothing, free of charge, to any resident living in Allegan County. Many recipients have informed Center volunteers that by utilizing the clothing bank they are able to redirect money toward other living expenses.
The clothing bank stocks items as they are donated. Recipients can choose from a wide variety of infant sizes to plus sized pieces. Although there is no charge for items in the clothing bank, a count is taken and recorded to track usage of this program and to reduce hoarding.
How do I qualify to use the clothing bank? Those requesting to draw on the clothing bank are asked to provide some basic information about name, address, birth date and income. Those requesting services can live anywhere in Allegan County. No set income guidelines exist. Since no fitting rooms are available, at this time, please have an approximate idea of the clothing sizes needed. It is also requested that recipients select items for themselves or immediate family members. If a friend or relative is in need of our services, feel free to refer them to the Martin Resource Center.
How can I donate my gently used clothing? The Resource Center has a trailer parked in front of the clothing bank building. Those wishing to donate can place the items in this trailer. We do ask that you discard any stained or torn clothing yourself. The staff only distribute usable clothing free of stains. We do thank our contributors for their generous donations that keep this program running.
